Racism, Rap, and Reality…

Wussup yall.. Been a minute since I been around, but dont worry, been hard at work on some big tings!

Anyways so Ive had a hell of a couple weeks and i thought id give u some highlights!

If u didnt kno, March 8-12 was the first ever Israeli Apartheid Week in Winnipeg and the organizers asked me to be a part of it. OBVIOUSLY i said yea. But maaaaaaaaaaan…. it was pretty intense.

IAW is a week of discussions, panels and lectures on the system of racial discrimination happening in Palestine/Israel right now. It was at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg, Canada. So they asked me to do a KeyNote speech on the 9th and to perform on the 10th.

So I wrote a speech, was about half an hour long about the definition of Apartheid. I was speakin wit my friend and activist Bassam (a Palestinian) and the famous Mordecai Breimberg. It was PACKED… with a looooooooot of zionists lol.. (zionists are the super real hardcore supporters of the State of Israel as a Middle Eastern state – very vocal, powerful and organized.. real talk.. was a lil intimidating)

Anyways, so I spoke, and the rest of the panel spoke, and then it was time for Questions and Answers. MAAAAAAANNNN talk about intense.. shitgot a lilcrazy. People were yelling, screaming, insulting the panel, reading from their own speeches – thats what I mean when I say organized. A lot of them were there, not to discuss, but to argue and try to discredit. They came prepared to do just that.

But what always pisses me off about this shit is that the arguments they bring up are IRRELEVENT AND CHILDISH. You get called racist, anti-Semitic, blah blah blah. Bnai Brith called us racist all over the media (Global TV news, etc.) and tried to discredit the event. They even tried to get it shut down, calling it Hate Speech, but the University refused. What we were talking about was Apartheid in the Middle East (Israel/Palestine). But, duringquestion andanswer, what was basically being argued was NOT whether Israel was an Apartheid (racist) state, but just bickering back and forth between what Palestinians and Arabs do and what Israelis and Jews do.

It always boils down to a verbal fight between the two sides. Its straight fuckery – no one wants to sit and talk seriously… They just want to get their point across and deny any other facts or truths. It happens on both sides and its stupid as fuck.. What we need to do is get RID of ALL EMOTIONSand talk about this subject seriously. Don’t let your passion about the issue make u a crazy extremist whos unwilling to look at reality because it may be inconvenient to your point. Anddon’t side-step a serious issue and just throw out your own”facts” as a counter. How are we supposed to solve things if we don’t acknowledge the shit thats actually happening!

Example: The speeches were about the practices of Israel that can be considered Apartheid (racial discrimination). Question 1 form audience: Does not refute or deny the charges AT ALL but after ranting for a few minutesbasically says “Well you say Israel is bad, but Arabs kill and treat Palestinians like crap too. So I say to you Arabs are worse than Israelis”

ok…. what the bloody fuck is your point? Was that even a question? Definitely wasnt about the topic. That was basically what most of the comments/questions were like. Stupidly useless waste that did not further the discussion, did not present valid counter-points, but just threw blame back and forth. Fucking stupid…. smh.. And its how it always gets when youre talking politics in public. Unfortuante but what can you do.

Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion, but when you’re trying to have an academic discussion, lets keep shit REAL.

Anyways some people liked it, others hated it but y’all can decide for yourself. My whole speech is at the bottom of the post. Lemme kno what you think of it.

The LIVE performance I did on the wednesday was HELLA LIVE! One of the best shows I did. It was at Degrees Diner in the U of M, and I have some video I’ll try posting later. Was a packed house and was mad energy. Had my peoples SillyWilly, BuddhaBLADE and Flo there wit me to help me out on stage and I performed NEW ALBUM material! Was dope! If you missed it, keep an eye out on my FACEBOOK page or Twitter

So the media covered the event a lot, I was in the Winnipeg Free Press, Global TV News and on StreetzFM 104.7FM in Winnipeg.

Wussup Y’all,

Just wanted to let u kno, I wrote an article for the University of Manitoba campus newspaper “The Manitoban” this week. It’s all about how our world is hella fucked up right now..

Check it below… The articles on their website and in print tooif you live in Winnipeg.

Here’s the Link

Here’s a lil piece of thearticle: (yes I actually wrote it…)

Beyond technological innovation, the paradigms of the modern world, based on individualism and reckless freedom and growth, have helped shape the way we conduct ourselves in society. Just as important, the indifference we now feel towards others — those beyond our circle of friends, family, race and religion — is also at fault.

Reviewed By UPTOWN MAGAZINE!

Wussup y’all,

Jus thought i’d let you know Winnipeg’s own Uptown Magazine (www.uptownmag.com) reviewed my mixtape “Download This Mixtape” and gave it a B+ rating. Not bad… Mad shout outs to Jared Story for the review.

Here’s the whole thing:

Download this Mixtape? Sure – but I’d gladly buy it. The debut full-length from Lyrical Militant is a satisfying synthesis of socially conscious (Hopes Exodus), sensitive (Been So Long) and shindig-suitable (Peg City, Four-Twenty) hip hop. With a strong lyrical flow and boss beats throughout, Download this Mixtape is always entertaining, but especially so when Lyrical Militant raps in an über-smooth style. On Been So Long, which features soul singer Flo, Militant is crazy cool, his suave tone sounding a bit like Q-Tip in A Tribe Called Quest’s classic, Bonita Applebum. Can Lyrical Militant kick it? Why yes, he can.
— Jared Story

Pretty dope..

Here’s the link to the site.

PEACE!
